My study abroad experience

October 22, 2011

I took a huge step out of my comfort zone and moved to the United Kingdom. I have been accepted at the University for the Creative Arts which is located in Canterbury, a district of Kent in South East England.

It feels like I have made the right choice. The University allows you to do the things you really love and explore your creative talents. Being a part of this creative and inspiring environment is very unique and motivating. I have already learned so much over the past four weeks. It feels amazing thinking of how much more I will learn and grow by the time I graduate as an architect (class of 2013).

Also, Canterbury is a lovely historic city. It’s skyline is dominated by a magnificent cathedral which is the oldest in England. Canterbury has a wide range of welcoming pubs and lovely restaurants. There is a great vibe every time I walk through the town.

So far I am having a great experience and I also perfectly fit into my new environment.

Below I have attached pictures I took of 5 highlights of the past 5 weeks:

1. MA Degree show at my University:

2. The town of Canterbury at night:

3. Clear night, bright moon:

4. The outside entrance of the Cathedral:

5. Fireworks for the kick off for Kent’s International Arts Festival:

Hi, my name is Carlos, an I’m a colleague of your mother’s.
She told me about you and your blog, that’s why I decided to write something here.
Just wanted to say that it is very inspiring to see a young woman stepping out of her comfort zone the way you do, someone who DARES. A strong woman.
Someone who chooses her own path, not the(often lesser) path that everybody else has in mind for you.
I encourage you to keep doing that, because this will make you one of the few winners we have in this world. As a matter of fact you already ARE a winner, because you do what 99% of us don’t: Taking matters into your own hands, instead of complaining about how things are,but never doing something about it.
    I have three very young daughters(8, 4 and a 1 year old)
I hope I can encourage them to become young women with the same courage and power that you have!

    Reach for the stars!
